Born in Tuzla, he started his career at Rudar Velenje. Later he successfully played at Dinamo Zagreb, Austria Wien, Vorskla Poltava, Olimpija Ljubljana, Nafta Lendava and NK Interblock. For the 2008–2009 season and the first few months following season, he played for and captained NK Maribor. After a string of poor results and a dispute with fans, he left the club. He later signed on a combined player-sporting director contract with NK Drava Ptuj but only made three appearances before leaving, allegedly due to a conflict surrounding the sacking of manager Milko Djurovski whom he had brought to the club only months before. He is well known for his great shot from distance.
Pavlovič played 21 matches for the Slovenia and was a participant at the Euro 2000 and 2002 FIFA World Cup.
